Can you witness a signature on a legal document? Why is it important to witness a signature? Any witness must be physically present to see the application of a signatory’s signature. The witness can attest to observing the signing on the document with an electronic signature.


Other documents: There are other categories of documents beyond simple contracts and deeds which may require a signature. This is a document that is sworn on oath or affirmed and is normally used in a legal proceeding.

Witnessing a person’s signature on a legal document is an important step in ensuring the document is valid and enforceable. It’s up to individual organisations whether they accept signatures witnessed or documents certified by Post Office staff. Please check with the relevant organisation before visiting a Post Office.
