The Traditional Upholstery School offers professional training in lampshade making. These classes usually run as two-day workshops which focus on a specific technique or aesthetic, such as perfecting pleated lampshade techniques, or pushing creative boundaries with with dip-dyed tassels and trimmings. Tracy has been making crafting for many years and now supplies to over 1shops within the United Kingdom including some prestigious names such as Fenwicks and House of Bruar. Working on a bowed empire shade, this course will give students the confidence to tackle a. No sewing experience. Just bring along your own fabric and we will supply the other materials needed and the guidance to help you make your own creation.

Join us for a half day lampshade class with our in house artist Kairen. Creative lampshade course. Drum lampshade workshop. Make a firm drum lampshade. Using a supplied frame, you will learn how to stitch reinforced fabric onto a frame using a traditional stitch.


A pleated or unpleated lampshade. The lampshade fabric is stretched or folded directly onto a ‘Straight Empire’ frame. Learn how to make a lampshade from fabric, paper, felt or willow at workshops and courses around the UK. Find lamp shade making workshops. Guest tutor, Debbie Quargnolo, will be running this one day lampshade making course. You will spend the course learning how to make a standard drum lampshade. Debbie runs a lifestyle shop and cafe on Shacklewell Lane in Dalston, East London, where she sells lampshades, cushions, upholstery and bags made from handcrafted fair trade fabrics from India.


Materials are available to purchase in our shop. Come and enjoy making your own lampshades ! You will make a fabric lampshade choosing your preferred fitting. No experience require suitable for all.


Lampshade making course

There are a maximum of people on each course. The courses take place at The Reading Room, Stratford sub Castle, Salisbury, Wiltshire. The Reading Room is ideally located on the edge of Salisbury and there is plenty of free parking available. All from 2-pm at The Reading Room.


In this one day workshop she will show you how to make a stylish lampshade, using your own or Debbie’s fabric. Lampshade Making short course with Georgia Wilkinson. Afternoon session 1pm –3.


Free parking as available close by, plus it is just a minute walk from Amersham Station on the Metropolitan line and mainline services from London Marylebone and Aylesbury. On the half day workshop you will make and take home the lampshade that you will have made and personally decorated! You will create your bespoke and unique lampshade using the same techniques that the professionals use.
